Studio III-Semester II

Partnered with Johnathan Ramirez, tasked with creating a mixed-use mid-rise building on a site located in New yorks between Hudson Yards and Hell’s Kitchen. The building program consisted of single- and multi-family residences, along with commercial and public entertainment spaces, with a focus on engaging with the community and the surrounding area. We chose the curvilinear form based on the site's shape and split the program between two curved forms that speak to each other, with a blossoming public center space between them. Because we had to design the building for a fixed number of units, we kept the building's core rectilinear, and the excess curvature was expressed as shared balcony spaces on every other level. The massing and program strategy create an intimate, isolated space while also allowing the community to engage in events and pass through the site. Within the program, we intentionally created many shared spaces and activated corridors to encourage interaction and foster community among residents.
