Studio Apartment

Studio III-Semester II

Tasked with creating an 8’ x 8’ x 12’ space focused on creating a smart, efficient plan within a small space as a prologue to the mixed-use project in Manhattan. The space was to be designed for an artist and to include a fitness area. The space was supposed to have drawn inspiration from a famous artist or architect; I was assigned Alvar Aalto. I choose to create a simple, efficient plan with many operable pieces to maximize space. The artist I chose was a vocalist who decided to create one room for both functions, using leather-finished foam padding for soundproofing and a comfortable yoga space. To bring some of Aalto’s principles into the project, I chose simple, natural materials with a neutral palette, focusing on human-centered design, and incorporated some of his furniture and lighting fixtures.
