DESKTOP PIECE

The idea for this project came up randomly one day, but as I kept thinking about it and finally started sketching, I began to notice the scale and materials of the piece. After this year's deer hunting season, I thought using some squirrel hide could be a nice material to incorporate into the piece. So I first needed to learn the process of preparing the hide for use. Then I started modeling within SketchUp to get the proper numbers and proportions set. Then I could start making linework in Illustrator for the tabletop laser cutter I got. I got some fake moss and made some small, wood-turned mushrooms to fill in the base. The stem of the piece is made from a piece of hedge taken from the land where the squirrel was hunted, my extended family's property. The lights are small battery pack-powered and will hang on the inside edge of the rims, which will hopefully give off a nice glow on a nightstand or desk. I’m still in the process of finishing the project, but this is some of the process work I have up to this point
